Preparation for H. pylori Breath Test
- Fast for 4 hours before the test (no food or drink)
- Do not smoke, chew gum, or brush your teeth during this time
Stop the following medications (unless otherwise advised):
- Proton pump inhibitors: 3 days before
- H2 blockers: 1 day before
- Antibiotics: 4 weeks before
- Bismuth preparations: 2 weeks before
This test should not be done on the same day as a barium test or any other breath test.
